Bollywood Still Steals from Webcomics!

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

A while back, I posted about how Bollywood steals from Webcomics. But that’s not fair… that wasn’t the Bollywood film industry, that was a single rogue cartoonist making an extremely similar character design. The Bollywood film industry would never stoop so low as to steal from Webcomics. After all, they’re one of the largest film industries in the world, and they have the marketing budget to do things properly.
Why look at this new release, Fool N Final. The producers of this film even hired Mike Tyson to dance in their promotional music video. Surely for their print campaign, they wouldn’t steal from webcomics…..

No, no. I’m not talking about Superman and Spiderman. I know they aren’t webcomics. Look BEHIND the superheroes.

Why…. is that Yirmumah? By DJ Coffman? Hang on, that billboard is a little high. Lets look at a closer one.

Why, that isn’t just a similar character design to Yirmumah, that’s the August 18th, 2006 installment of Yirmumah, copied and pasted 4 times across the back of the poster to make it look all Comic-y.

Okay, the billboards steal from webcomics, but what about all these one-sheets?

I’d recognize a Joe Dunn drawing anywhere! That’s he and Mitch Clem’s Coffee Achievers!

It’s a darned good thing that Joe LOVES crappy movies. Because he’s inadvertantly helping advertise one!

As for me, I’m just jealous they didn’t steal my comics.

Well, there’s only one thing to do, let me know how I can find these people so I might unleash venom spitting cobras among them.

Sadly, these may be the only people prepared to deal with Coffman’s Famous VSC™.

Wait, should that have been Coffman™?

Just noticed your background is a bunch of visa stamps. Couldn’t we say you’re stealing from those countries?

    :-p

(Actually, I’m just jealous you’re not using my micronation’s stamp.)

  12. Krishna Sadasivam Says:

Unfreakin’ believable. Just about everything in India is a bootleg - people pirate software, DVDs, you name it. The fact that they so blatantly stole art from webcartoonists is downright rude. That said, it’s impossible to enforce the copyright law there. A crying shame, too. :(

Q: The promos of the film include comic strips.

A: Yes, we had an idea of making the film look as if it’s an adaptation of some comic strip. It is a light-hearted film with a comic feel to it. There are a lot of graphics in the film with every character in turning into a comic book figure.

Wait… does that mean maybe there are stolen comics in the film too? Oh lord, I hope I don’t have to go watch it to find out.

  14. Leah Says:

It looks like they have ridiculously high resolution versions, so they had to transform the online ones into print-ready (esp. in the billboard), which just seems really weird. I mean, besides the fact that this just weird in general.

  15. jake Says:

    Leah, they probably Rasterbated them.
