Around town

Monday, August 6th, 2007

John and I have an apartment, and we move in first thing in the morning. But what have we been doing in the meantime? Geez. There’s CONSTANTLY stuff to do here. Just the other night in the courtyard outside our apartment, we had breakdancers on the steps, a Mariachi Marching Band in the street, and live Jazz in a little rock-garden cafe next door. But here’s a bit of the other things that have been within walking distance of our apartment.

This city was built as a mining town back in the day, but now the mines are closed, so they’ve converted the shafts into a museum… and though we haven’t been in there yet, a night club.

The international Music/Dance fest has been on all week…. closing ceremonies included fireworks.

This week was also the big all-Mexico Biker Bash. They’ve been parading in the road behind our place.

That picture on the right is a former bullfighting ring that has been converted into a 5 star hotel.

We wandered over to the lake, where you can rent a boat, or head over to the outdoor roller rink.

Went to an AMAZING barbeque with friends. Good lord, Cactus steak is my new favorite food. I didn’t even know it was edible, but it’s glorious. Also, I’m sad to report that USA lost the World Cup of Uno Stacko.

Took the sky-tram between the two mountains, and did some exploring. We trekked down the other side and got a little lost. John did a good long butt-slide down a mountain at one point. It was not captured on film because it would have been morbid to take a picture in case he died.

Every friday night the courtyard in front of our apartment becomes the hip hangout for all the angsty teens. We tried to hang out with them, but we were not angsty enough.

Apartment update tomorrow!
