Welton Colbert vs Guest Strips

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Whew. Another Ryan Estrada Day finished. And time for a break! While this site autoupdates with one guest strip every hour, I’m going to Japan for a weekend on Tshushima Island. When I stepped away from the drawing table, after having been stuck in my tiny room for a month, I remember thinking about how I never wanted to make another comic again, and how much i was looking forward to this break. But then I remembered that I live the kind of life where I CAN spend a month drawing guest comics just because I want to, and then whisk away to Japan. And I love my job again.

And now, a word from Welton Colbert:

This was my strip for Comixtalk. I used to do a monthly column there featuring the above character, the grumpy comic reviewer Welton Colbert.

What better day to bring him back? It was fun to draw Welton in lots of styles…. there’s regular Welton, “Penny Arcade” Welton, “Jeffrey Rowland” Welton, “Jim Davis” Welton, “James Kochalka” Welton, “Sam Logan” Welton, “Dorothy Gambrell” Welton, “Hank Ketcham” Welton, “Archie Comics” Welton, “Paul Southworth” Welton and “Charles Schultz” Welton.

A lot of people have been calling this an annual event. Oh, lord, I hope not. If I talk myself into this again, I want someone to punch me in the face.
