Last weekend, to celebrate the first Full Moon of the lunar new year, I went with a group of friends to my Korean Grandma’s village. Normally when I visit, I’m put to work in the persimmon orchards, but this time, there was another matter at hand. Ghostbusting.

See, traditionally, the men of the village would use this time to rid the village of ghosts. They’d march door to door, barn to barn, playing special musical instruments. But sadly, all of the old men of the village are gone, leaving only a small group of grandmothers behind. It had been years since the ghosts of this small Changwon persimmon farming community had been busted. So they called on the foreigners.

I played the gong. We made enough in tips to make me consider a career in Ghostbusting, but then donated that money to my Korean grandma to throw a party for the other women in the village. Oh, and since I’m not in any of the pictures, here’s another battle that took place earlier in the day.
