Ryan and the Haunted Theater

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

I’ve been stuck in adventure-free West Bloomfield, Michigan for a few months, so when I found a secret entrance to the creepy, post-apocalyptic looking abandoned theater a block from the family home, I knew I had some exploring to do.

The first trip was outstandingly creepy. Just me and a dollar store flashlight venturing through a broken-in door into the pitch black dark, not knowing what manner of squatter, junkie or spooky-ghost had wielded the crowbar that made that secret entrance, but knew I’d need to come back with a better flashlight, a camera, and an exploring partner.
My buddy Jim and I headed over for the second trip, this time armed with the proper gear. But when we arrived, all of the exits were open. We popped our head in to see if anyone else was in there, but it seemed empty. We cautiously ventured in, when a side door suddenly burst open. We ran back and tried to make a break for it. We hid our headlamps and flashlights as a man chased after us.
I tried to play it cool “We were just passing by, and wondered why the doors were open.” I said. Jim added “we just popped our heads in.” The man politely explained that he was the new owner of the land the theater was on, and was checking the place out.”Do you mind if we come in and check it out?” Jim asked. “Sure,” answered the man. And we immediately ruined our ruse by pulling back out our headlamps and flashlights.
”I gotta figure out how to get to the projection booth,” the owner said once inside.”Far left hallway, second door on the right” I replied. Immediately realizing I’d just admitted this wasn’t the first time I’d trespassed. The man didn’t seem to mind.

We didn’t get as much time to explore as we’d liked, but we got to take a look! I wish I had a less anticlimactic ending for you, but it was just a fun spooky place that was sadly devoid of danger or spooky-ghosts. It’d be a great place to watch scary movies!
